Worth a try

To Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth Defender of the Faith.

If it pleases your Majesty I beg to present this petition, humbly requesting that you don’t give your assent to the EU (Amendment) Bill which has, recently, completed its passage through the Houses of Parliament.

As your Majesty will be aware the last time Royal Assent was refused it was during the reign of her late Majesty Queen Anne and it has subsequently been taken as read that ‘the Queen (or King) wills it’ for every daft piece of legislation ever since.

As your Majesty knows we were promised a referendum on this issue by your own ministers but they do rather seem to have changed their minds. Possibly because they don’t trust us to give them the right answer. Your late and lamented predecessors former subjects in Ireland however were allowed a say. And it does seem a little unfair that we can’t

We, your loyal subjects, appreciate that this request may cause you a little discomfiture and possibly a little bit of a constitutional rumpus.

But in return for your gracious granting of this request we do promise to lift the burden placed on your Majesty in having to suffer weekly meetings with that odious little one eyed man as soon as we are able to. Give or take a couple of years unless your Majesty would like to try a further constitutional innovation and dissolve Parliament now.

Thanks awfully…..

That should do the trick. How could she be unmoved by it.
Do you get to send a letter to the Queen for free, as you do for an MP? Well you do here and I assume it's some British tradition.

So, if I understand this correctly, you're worried that control over some British affairs could end up in Brussels, which you see as undemocratic, and to stop that you're happy that an unelected head of state should overrule a democratically elected government, thus losing the control you don't want to lose?

Funky.

You raise an interesting constitutional point.

But remember what happened when the Lords refused the 1908 budget saying they had the people behind them because the budghet went beyond manifesto commitments?
