Dabs on this.

At last the day arrived that I have been awaiting since my Birthday back in February.

One of my favourite presents (much lobbied for) was a personal digital radio.

As I have probably mentioned before I do listen to the radio a lot. Mainly Radio 5 (or Radio 4 when 5 are extensively covering some ghastly Horse racing or golfing event).

The desire was not to be able to listen to better broadcast quality, read all the pointless little notes that come up on the LCD or indeed spend much more on batteries than I anticipated – it’s a hungry beast for sure.

No I have for ages wanted to get portable access to Radio 5’s Sports Extra channel. Helpful for coverage of some football matches. But best of all being able to listen to Test Match Special. Ball by ball coverage, ohhs ahhs, conversations about cakes, birds, the skyline around the venue. The gentle mocking and humour and the always highly informed commentary. Well Geoff Boycott aside.

And today was the first TMS broadcast since my birthday.

So whilst sitting at my desk fiddling around with Contracts and the like I had one ear piece in and savoured every moment of the (rain delayed) start to the first day of the first test between England and New Zealand.

Best day at work ever? No. I still had plenty of the boring stuff to do, people to see and staff to spoon feed. And I suppose it’s not exactly the right thing to do, to be listening to the match during the hours when I’m supposed to be fully attentive to other stuff.

But the day seemed to go by a little quicker than usual.

Just out of interest do you do anything that skirts along just on the right side of acceptable behaviour in the work place. I don’t feel guilty but additional vindication is, of course, always welcome.

Who cares as long as the work gets done ;-)

You don't really expect me to answer that do you? :-)

See it's people like you who give the NHS a bad name. Not concentrating on your work. Cricket more important than work.

Terrible!!! :-)

This made me chuckle. Not because of the work issue but because of the cricket on the radio issue. Being of the pre-television era, literally I was 21 when TV began in Australia, I listened to lots of cricket on the radio. We heard about the seagulls in the outfield and the flags waving gently over the members' stand. This made me all nostalgic. Now we have to get all the news on cricinfo and occasionally, at great expense, we subscribe to something like the World Cup so the "old scientist" can watch it on the computer. Never on TV in this cricket wasteland!

When I worked for the NHS I used to fall asleep on my desk most days. Whilst listening to the radio ;) BG

I fai the cricket test totally (I don't even make it to the exam room!) but a personal DAB radio is a neat little gift! Nice one

No, never. I am absolutely innocent. I never play Solitaire or Freecell - unless I'm waiting for something else to happen ...

Unlike my colleague who listens to the cricket - and then, even worse, tells me about it.
