Beavering away

I went along to the AGM of the Scout Group of which Fred’s Beaver Colony is a part this evening. I think it’s important to show a bit of support. Even if it means missing the first half of the European Cup Final. But that’s a different post altogether.

Anyway it all took rather unexpected turn of events when they were running through nominations for the Executive Officials to serve for this year.

You’re probably ahead of me already, however….

As I understand it (now) every Scout Group is essentially in two parts. The uniform section and an Executive Committee that oversees maintenance, fund raising, disbursements, appointments and the like.

Anyway the chairman of the AGM was going through the list of reappointments for the year.

The Scouts Executive representative was reappointed, the Cubs Executive representative likewise. It was then noted that there wasn’t an Executive representing the Beavers.

The chair looked around the room and asked if there were any ‘Mums who would be interested in the role’. The Beaver Colony leader glanced over in my direction and said ‘Or Dads of course’. The direction of her glance was followed by everyone else in the room.

‘Erhm, ahhh, Yes of course I’d love to’ well it’s difficult to say anything else under those circumstances and the appointment was endorsed unanimously.

If the above seems a little hesitant it’s not that I’m unenthusiastic. It’s rather that it’s one of those situations where you end up somewhere completely different to what you expected only a few moments before.

I do try to ‘Be Prepared’ but it doesn’t always quite work out that way.

I just hope that I can do a good job. Not so much for me but for Fred and his group

Congrats! I'm sure you'll do a great job! Our AGM is unfortunately a little light on parents and, believe me, every little bit of parents support helps!

And you never know, maybe becoming a leader is the next step? ;)

And you didn't even say anything. It's always been my experience if you say anything at these things you immediately have a job with a useless title but a lot of work.
I'm sure if you can keep the purchasing dept in line you will be fine here.

Well done, that man! I bet Fred is chuffed to bits.
