In spite of previous speculation over his future, fuelled by the departure of striker Thierry Henry and close friend and former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein, it has been reported today that Arsene Wenger has agreed a new three-year contract as Arsenal manager.

The contract is estimated to be worth £4million a year making Wenger the clubs second highest earner after the club Captain and serial whinger William Gallas.

With the potential of the young players in the Arsenal squad he now has the opportunity to build a third championship winning team and (in a reverential whisper) join Herbert Chapman as one of the truly great figures in the clubs history. Although in truth he was probably there already.

The contents of the glass that I drink from whilst blogging although partially consumed won’t need refilling for a while I feel.

Marchons, marchons ! Qu'un sang impur Abreuve nos sillons !
